Description
Red Wiggler Worms (Eisenia fetida) are fast breeders and excellent composters! They are the most popular composting worm because of their versatility and ease of care. Red Wigglers are able to quickly process decaying organic matter such as leaf litter, kitchen waste, and manures. Eisenia fetida do not live in soil, nor do they require any. In nature, they only utilize the top couple inches of soil, mainly to escape the light from the sun.
Red Wigglers are most productive and comfortable in the same temperatures as you, 50-90 degrees Fahrenheit. Red Wigglers can lay 2-3 cocoons per week and each cocoon can contain up to 20 eggs. Eisenia Fetida (red wiggler worms) can easily double their population every 60 days under ideal conditions.
Reds Wigglers are perfectly comfortable in a worm bin system because they like to be in close proximity to each other. This also encourages them to breed more often.
